HOW TO LOOK YOUR BEST FOR YOUR PROFESSIONAL HEADSHOT

In today’s online world, first impressions are crucial. What better way to stand out than with a strong headshot? Wardrobe can be the trickiest part, so we’re here to share some tips to help you rock your portrait session and get the headshot of your dreams.

SIMPLE IS BEST

When it comes to colors, patterns, and textures, simple is always the way to go. Here’s some guidelines:

Stick to solid colors

Solids photograph better than patterns - they just do! If you want to add a pop, try a fun accessory or a solid suit coat over a patterned button-up. Solid colors flatter the body and keep the focus on you, rather than on your clothing. Bold colors and prints can be a great way to show your unique personality, just keep them to a minimum.

Avoid busy neck lines

Busy necklines have a tendency to make things appear not-so-flattering. Keep things simple with a classic crew or v-neck. Not only will this be the most flattering, but it will keep the focus on your face.

Avoid relaxed or baggy clothes

Clothing that isn’t fitted will look baggy and overly-casual, the opposite of how your headshots should look! Find a suit coat that’s tailored, pants that are correctly hemmed, or a skirt that hugs your figure.

KEEP IT REAL

Your wardrobe should reflect the image you’d like to portray, and can vary from person and person and profession to profession. Someone with an art degree might have a different style than someone with a law degree - and they’ll probably have a different professional image. Find something that fits your career but is uniquely you!

BRING OPTIONS

If you aren’t sure what will look best, bring different options to your session and we’ll help you put together something perfect. Even if you think you’re sure, your photographer has years of experience and an eye for what’s best, so bring a few looks just in case.

INVEST IN HAIR AND MAKEUP

We have no doubt that you’re a hair and makeup expert, but why add that stress to your headshot session? Having a trusted professional making you look your best will help you feel your best, and that will show in your images! We work with talented local makeup artists to give you a relaxed in-studio experience, where all you have to worry about is smiling. It’s always an option to add professional hair and makeup to your headshot session, and we can’t encourage it enough!
